‘소문과 화제작’ E3 2009 관전포인트 정리

한때 세계 최고의 게임쇼로 불리던 E3가 부활할 것인가?

E3 2009가 6월 2일부터 4일까지 사흘 동안 미국 로스엔젤레스 컨벤션센터에서 열린다. 올해 E3는 2006년까지 진행하던 원래의 게임쇼 플랫폼으로 되돌아가면서 높은 관심을 모으고 있다.

단지 E3를 반기지 않는 손님은 딱 하나, 바로 신종 인플루엔자다. E3가 열리는 로스엔젤레스가 신종 인플루엔자의 진원지로 알려진 멕시코 인근이라는 점 때문에 주최 측과 참가업체들은 많은 우려를 하고 있다.

캡콤의 경우 신종 인플루엔자를 이유로 한때 E3 불참을 선언하기도 했고, 코에이나 스퀘어에닉스도 고민했던 것으로 알려졌다. 또 행사를 취재하는 게임매체와 관람객들의 불안함도 있는 것이 사실이다.

이런 악조건 속에서도 E3 2009는 콘솔 메이커 3사인 마이크로소프트와 닌텐도, 소니가 모두 참가하고 전 세계 200여 업체가 참가를 확정해 좋은 조짐을 보이고 있다.

이번 E3에서 마이크로소프트에 대한 관심은 그 어느 때보다 크다. 마이크로소프트의 휴대용 게임기 발표 여부는 최고의 관심사.

Xbox와 관련된 블리자드 게임을 발표할 것인지에 대해서도 이목이 집중되고 있다. 지난 3월 GDC 2009에서 블리자드 롭 팔도 부사장은 마이크로소프트와 차세대 게임기에 대해 논의하고 있다고 밝힌 바 있다.

유저들은 <디아블로3>가 차세대 Xbox로 발표될 수도 있다고 예상하고 있다. 당시 롭 팔도 부사장이 <월드 오브 워크래프트>와 같은 온라인게임이나 <스타크래프트>와 같은 RTS 게임은 콘솔 게임기에 적합하지 않다고 언급했기 때문이다.

또, 마이크로소프트는 이번 E3에서 Xbox360용 동작인식 웹캠을 발표할 전망이다. 3D 카메라 기술을 채용한 이번 웹캠은 게이머의 동작을 감지할 수 있도록 만들어져 새로운 게임에 적용될 것으로 알려졌다.

소니가 ‘PSP2’로 불리는 신형 PSP(오른쪽: 인터넷에 퍼져 있는 PSP2의 비공식 이미지)를 발표할 것인지도 관심거리다.

최근까지 나온 소문에 따르면 소니는 신형 PSP를 발표하면서 기존의 UMD 방식을 버리고 온라인 다운로드 방식을 선택할 것으로 알려졌다.

이와 함께 신형 PSP에 슬라이드형 패드가 장착될 것이라는 소문도 나돌고 있다.

이 외에도 소니가 슬림형 PS3를 발표할 것이라는 소문도 확산되고 있으며, 일부 외신에서는 소니가 PS3의 가격인하를 발표해 가격경쟁력을 높이는 방안을 대대적으로 홍보할 것이라고 예상하고 있다. 외신에 따르면 소니는 PS3의 가격을 40 달러 이상 내릴 것으로 관측됐다.

게임 개발사의 경우 <폴아웃3>로 유명한 베데스다가 이번 E3에서 FPS 게임의 장르를 파괴할 새로운 게임을 선보일 것이라고 밝히면서 관심을 모으고 있다. 외신에 따르면 신작 게임은 <울펜슈타인: 애너미 테러토리>를 만든 스플래시 대미지를 통해 만들어지고 있다.

코지마 히데오의 신작 게임도 이번 E3에서 밝혀질 예정이다. 철저히 신비주의로 일관하고 있는 ‘코지마 프로덕션’의 신작에 대한 정보는 전 세계 게이머들의 이목을 집중시키고 있다.

캡콤의 신작에 대한 정보도 유저들에게 큰 관심을 받고 있다. 당초 <데빌메이 크라이 5>라는 소문이 확산되자 이를 부인하고 나선 캡콤은 “기존 IP 기반의 신작게임”이라고 밝히면서 진화에 나섰다. 유저들은 이번 신작이 1990년대를 풍미했던 유명 게임의 새로운 시리즈가 될 것으로 예상하고 있다.

온라인게임 중에서는 <GTA>의 개발자로 알려진 리얼타임월드의 데이빗 존스가 <APB>(오른쪽 이미지)를 공개하며 소니온라인엔터테인먼트도 <DC 유니버스 온라인>과 <에이전시>를 선보인다.

이 밖에 2K게임즈의 <바이오쇼크2>, 액티비전의 <블러>와 <모던워페어2>, 캡콤의 <데드라이징2>와 <로스트 플래닛 2>, EA의 <드래곤 에이지: 오리진>과 <매스이펙트2>, 바이오웨어의 MMORPG <스타워즈: 구공화국>, 유비소프트의 <어쌔신 크리드 2> 등 중량감 있는 신작이 다수 공개될 예정이다.

E3의 주최를 맡고 있는 ESA는 ‘E3 2009’에 200여 개 업체가 참가하고, 최소 4만 명 이상의 관람객이 행사장을 찾을 것이라고 밝혔다. ESA는 올해로 14회째를 맞은 E3가 세계 최고의 게임쇼로 발돋움하는 계기가 될 것으로 자신하고 있다.
